I was raised on a farm in Eastern Washington and now reside in Snoqualmie. I am married, and my fur-kids include 2 dogs and 2 cats. My rescue experience includes wildlife rescues of baby rabbits, raccoon, skunks, various birds and ducks. I have assisted with spay & neutering project for a feral cat colony, and domesticating/re-homing feral kittens. I have raised farm animals (horses, sheep, cattle, chickens & turkeys) … even showed a few of these at a fair in 4-H. Man’s best friend (dog) will always be my first passion, however my love for animals expands the entire animal kingdom.
Consistently, throughout my life, I have found myself in the center of some type of rescue. For whatever reason, animals & people who need ‘rescuing’ seem to find me before I find them. Animals have always been my true love & huge part of my life. The lessons they’ve taught me far exceed anything I can ever give back to them. Caring for animals, nurturing them and provide a safe loving environment is just who I am. I was born to love and care for these creatures and through PUP, I am being given an opportunity to put my passion into action
Why do I foster ? I want these dogs to have a second chance at a first impression. Usually, animals don’t show well in shelter environments. Having them in a home, well loved and cared for, brings the best out in them. I believe at the right environment & a great vetting process increases the chance that their forever home is only one application away.
How do I feel when a animal I raised or fostered leaves? Not going to lie, there is an emotional piece. However, when you know you’ve helped put the right family to the right pet, my heart soars. Knowing that you helped save a life, and enhance someone else’s life is a pretty incredible feeling.
How to get ready? The first couple of days is never easy, but if you listen closely and stick to your schedule, a peaceful coexistence is just around the corner. Believe in the process.
How to know when you’re done? Pretty sure I will never be done, but I’ve had to take a break a couple of times. Mostly because I needed to focus on my fur-kids … or another aspect of my life.
