Izzy (Sweetie)

Our little Chinese Crested, Sweetie now lives with Laura.  Her new name is Izzy, short for Isabel.

Laura writes, "I love her more and more everyday. Even though she is 9, she's my little baby. She used to sleep in her bed on my bed and she still does, but from time to time, I wake up and there is her little head right next to mine.

She is such a good girl and so loving. I love kissing her soft skin. We go for walks around my complex and when we get away from the roads, I take her leash off and boy can she run. She always waits for me though. She runs when I first put her down and then as soon as she knows we are close to home. The rest of the time she just trots along sniffing everywhere.

After I got her, my daughter and I changed her name to Isabel after the blond doctor on Grey's Anatomy - we are big fans - everyone on the show calls the doctor "Izzy" so of course her nickname and what we call her is "Izzy" . So, it's always "little Izzy".

There is a wonderful pet store across the street and they all know her. We joke about not worrying about starving if there is a crisis because she has more and better food than we do. Once I came in alone and they said, "where's little Izzy?" She's pretty comfortable in there. She goes right up to the big dogs. I think that's because of Saffron, her foster's big dog.

Anyway, that's my long winded way of saying she is great, her timing in my life is perfect, and I plan to keep her healthy and loved so she will live a longggg time.

Thank you for bringing her into my life."

In November 2007, we received this update:

"It has been a little over a year since Sweetie (Hairless Chinese Crested) became my best friend (n/k/a "Izzy" short for Isabel) and my heart is filled with gratitude to People United for Pets and Saffron (foster) for trusting me to take care of her. I can't imagine my life without her.

How anyone could treat her any less than a Queen always baffles me. Her eyes are filled with sweetness and love. I swear, she may start talking one day, she's so like my little baby.

At 10 years old now she still runs like the wind. My kids still laugh about when I first received her and they were both at home, she took off out the open door - they panicked thinking I would kill them over Izzy - and they were trying to get her to come back - my son who is very athletic and 21 was running as fast as he could and, of course especially since he is of the male persuasion - she wasn't about to let him catch her. My daughter couldn't quit laughing at the fact that Clint had been beaten by a female dog. It had a happy ending and hasn't happened since.

She also has a bit of the mischievous in her. It is nice that we are allowed to let our dogs walk (or run in Izzy's case) within the complex so I let her run and she is so happy and at the end she always goes straight to the door without coaxing. One night she decided she wasn't done though and turned around at the stairs to go back to her walk so she would look at me and go farther away and then look to see if I was still there and keep going. Just like a little toddler. It took me forever (in fact I had to hide so she would come looking for me). Next time she had to wear her leash.

Also, she seems very comfortable around visitors now, with the exception of men. Not sure if she will ever get over that fear. Good thing I'm not planning on getting married. Huh uh, little Izzy and I sleep in the same bed!

Anyway, I could go on forever, but I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am to have her and I do spoil her tons!"
