Our
happy-go-lucky Boston Terrier, Happy went to live with Pam. She has
re-named him Calvin, after the smart, ready-for-anything boy in
the Calvin & Hobbes comic strip.
When Pam adopted Happy, her
current dog, 11 year old Molly had recently been diagnosed with
cancer. Pam told us, "He and Molly hit it off right away.
Thanks to him, Molly spent a lot of her last week romping and
playing. Thanks to him, I didn’t come home to an empty house this
morning."
Pam later wrote with this update, "Two and a half weeks after losing
Molly, we’re back to a household of three. On Saturday, Calvin & I
brought Jake, a 10-year-old lab mix, into our home. Jake is calm,
gentle, and affectionate (my requirements) and likes to play
tug-of-war and is content to let Calvin be in charge (Calvin’s
requirements). Jake came from Old Dog Haven (www.olddoghaven.org),
a wonderful resource for older dogs and people who care about them.
Calvin is a total joy – and surprisingly much lower-key than I
thought at first! He alternates bursts of frenetic playing with long
naps, which makes him a great fit here. He gets a little pushy
meeting new dogs sometimes (his in-your-face approach surprises
them), but we’re working on that. We play all sorts of training
games (he catches on very quickly), and he curls up in my lap
whenever I give him the chance. In short, he’s wonderful!
Thanks!!"
