Saige - Sit!

Happy Saige

Our cute Llasa mix, Saige was adopted by Susan.

She wrote, "I am so thankful that I adopted her. Saige and I are great buddies. I got a seat for the car for her that has an air pillow that goes in the bottom so she sits up high enough so she can see out and let her ears flap in the breeze (all while she is harnessed safely inside).

When Saige first came to my house she'd sleep at the end of the bed. We have surely bonded because now she comes up and lays her head on my pillow and her body has to be touching mine somewhere for her to settle down. I think she's happy and I absolutely am! She's the perfect dog for me and I anticipate we will have many great years ahead.

Thank you to all of you at PUP - everyone has been so helpful and encouraging and if Saige is an indication, you do a great job with your animals."

In January, 2008 we received this wonderful story from Susan:

"Just wanted to check in and tell you that Saige and I are having a wonderful time.  She has been such a blessing in my life.

As you may recall, Saige is mostly blind. According to the vet she can, at best, see dark and light.  Well, a few months ago, a cat appeared in our yard and befriended us. It's not that Saige is a stranger to cats. She shares her home with five indoor cats and while they tolerate each other, I wouldn't say they are "friends." However, this neighborhood cat has truly befriended Saige and I.

Autumn (what I call the cat) comes into the yard every time we are outside. The two of them play, snuggle up to each other, race to see who can get up the sidewalk and to the gate fastest, and Autumn does something I've never seen a cat do. When I call Saige, Autumn will go out into the yard and herd her back to me. They have such an amazing relationship that it seems that God sent Autumn to be Saige's sight.

A few weeks ago a stray dog was terrified in our yard. She seemed stuck but was just cold, lost and scared. My neighbor and I tried for over an hour to get her to scurry on home because it was too cold outside for a little dog. She wouldn't budge. My neighbor captured the dog and kept her inside for the night. The Humane Society took her in the next day so she could reunite with her family. When the officer came to pick up the stray dog, he was astounded at the relationship Saige and Autumn have. He was especially surprised to find out that Autumn was not my cat, as she comes when I call her and she's so connected with Saige. Autumn and Saige were playing on the rails of my front fence while I was speaking with the officer and they were so gentle with each other. As I said, it is an amazing relationship.

Saige went to the groomer on Saturday and got a "teddy bear" cut. She looked so adorable and she's always so perky when she comes home from the groomer. I can't tell if it is that she feels better from the haircut or if she's just so very grateful to be back home. In any case, she's a riot -- she runs around and barks (talks, almost), and alternately jumps up on her hind legs and paws at the air. What a joy!

You know I was hesitant about getting a dog, but I wanted one. Saige is heaven-sent to me and I am so happy that she's come to live at my house. Thank you for all you do to save wonderful animals like her. They have so much to give."
